Our wish to hold our annual
picnic at the Anthony Chabot Regional Park in Castro Valley, CA,
finally came true on August 9. Last year we had already reserved
the same picnic site but were forced to change our venue at the last
minute due to bad weather.
Fortunately this time the weather was absolutely perfect and forty-four
alumni and guests gathered for a wonderful time. Kathy and her group
of helpers arrived early to prepare the tables and grill meats, including
spareribs, chicken wings, tri-tip, and sausages. Katherine prepared
the green salad, Joyce brought yams and garlic bread, Nelson provided
the drinks, Mandick brought charcoal, watermelons and also served as
our barbecue chef, Wai brought paper goods, Vivie brought fruit, snacks
and dessert.
Our guests of honor were Tsoi Heung Sang and Lai Yuet Sum from Hong
Kong. Their daughter and son also accompanied them. We were delighted
to see the entire family.
We also welcomed Catherine Wai Suk Han, our 1962 schoolmate, and her
husband. They also came from Hong Kong and are visiting family in the
Bay Area.
Of course we started the picnic with the singing of our school song.
Then everyone had a great time greeting old and new friends and catching
up on the latest news. After we were stuffed with food, we needed some
activity to work off the calories. Some of us went hiking around the
lake, some went kayaking, while a few stayed behind at the picnic site
to continue chatting.
When everyone returned from the afternoon activities, Kathy delighted
us with her demonstration of watermelon "chopping". She was so fast
and efficient that we broke into applause. Also many thanks to Mandick
for choosing such juicy and sweet watermelons.
At the end of the picnic, ten people stayed long enough to continue
the good time by having dinner at the Prince Dim Sum House in nearby
San Leandro.
We thank all those who came and made this picnic such a fun event.
See you again at the Annual Dinner!
