REUNION DINNER & MEXICO TRIP
reported by Keith Cho

On May 3, 2008 QESAAUSA of Southern California hosted a Reunion dinner at the Marie Callenders Restaurant in City of Industry. Before the reunion dinner, our Northern California members, led by Paul Pang visited the Huntington Library in San Marino. They viewed the extensive art collections, rare books and manuscripts. They visited a dozen of different gardens including the newly opened Liu Fang Yuan (Garden of Flowing Fragrance) with interesting architecture, lakes edged with Taihu rocks, bridges, plants and pavilions.

The reunion dinner was attended by 13 alumni locally and their spouses, and 6 alumni and their spouses from the Bay area. The guest of honor was Mrs. Karen Chan and her husband Professor KM Chan. Mrs. Chan was a QES teacher from 1961 - 1963 when Dr. A. Hinton was Principal at the time.

The dinner function lasted from 6 - 9 PM. The social hour was filled with lots of small talks and reminiscence of the good old QES days in Hong Kong. After the school song, Paul Pang, Social Activity Director of S. California started out by introducing the current and past Directors, and the Guest of Honor and her family.

Joyce Yau, the President gave a speech about our QESAAUSA. It was followed by LP Leung on his volunteering work for the Chinese American Historical Society. YK Leung talked about the volunteer work on Hemophilia projects in China by Dr. Man Chiu Poon. On behalf of Peter Poon, Paul Pang talked about the Phoenix Mars landing scheduled on May 25.

During the dinner, we played two games. Professor Chan showed slides from QES days in the 1960's. Thanks to the generous donations from some Northern California members, there were enough prizes to go around. With the support and participation of everyone, the reunion dinner was a success.

On May 4, twenty of us went to the 1-day Mexico trip. We traveled through Tijuana and to Puerto Nuevo for a lobster & fish lunch. We then headed to a Rosarito resort for relaxation and horseback riding on the beach. Before returning to Los Angeles, the bus stopped at the Coronado Hotel in San Diego. Anyone remember the movie "Some like it hot" with M. Monroe and Jack Lemon? It was filmed in this hotel!

Keith Cho and Paul Pang are thankful for the participation of all alumni for joining us, making the event a success. Special thanks for those who traveled from the Bay area. The greatest applause should go to Mrs. Karen Chan and Professor Chan who drove all the way back from S. F. to meet with our alumni, and brought along their children and grandchildren. Thank you all and we will do it again next year.
