Miss Miles was our music teacher in Form 4. That year, she invited several girl students, including me, to her home for a real English dinner. It was the first and only time a teacher had invited me to her home during all the years that I attended school in Hong Kong. In those days, teachers generally kept their distance, and we never had any contact with them outside of school. But not Miss Miles. Her gracious hospitality made a lasting impression on me, even after more than forty years. I was sad when a classmate informed me, some years later, that Miss Miles had passed away in England.
